Day - 08: Tuesday, September 30, 2014
Beginning Location: Friendship Cove, Lake Powell, UT/AZ
Final Location: Kanab,
UT
Last night was a starry, starry night over Lake
Powell, a great finale to our lake excursion.
I was up at 5 AM this morning, earlier than usual,
perhaps anxious to get on with our travels. Sheila was already up and about, tuned in to
“Morning Joe” on Dish Network’s Channel 209.
With everyone up by about 6 AM we decided to move on. Our plan was to return to the Wahweap Marina by 1:30 PM to turn in the boat, move our gear to the cars and get on the road. By 0645 we had lifted anchors and after a brief struggle to shake ourselves off the beach and avoid some underwater rocks we were underway.
As we were powering our way down lake, most everyone
was busily packing. With breakfast food (bacon, sausage, eggs, muffins, etc.)
in the refrigerator, we had a big breakfast while underway.
Sheila took the helm to drive us home through the
Antelope Island Pass, taking us in for a view of the Glen Canyon Dam before we
continued back to the Wahweap Marina.
We arrived at the marina’s fueling pier about noon and topped up the tanks with about 100 gallons of gas. After moving to the marina return docks we proceeded to unload our baggage and get our boat closeout inspection. By 2 PM we were back in the cars and on the road.

We crossed into Utah and arrived at Kanab at 4 PM
having shifted from Pacific Time to Mountain Time. After checking in at the Best Western in Kanab we made reservations for dinner at the Rocking V Cafe.
If I could understand it I would explain the Utah
eatery liquor laws. Our waitress explained that we could order beer and wine
but only if we also ordered food, that we couldn’t have two drinks at a time,
that we … well, enough about that; we were going to eat so no issue here. The Rocking
V Cafe gets high marks for the food, the friendly atmosphere, a Sarah Palin
look-alike serving tables and Wasatch Brewing Company's Polygamy Porter; who could not crave an order of pan-fried bacon-wrapped
meatloaf served with mounds of mashed potatoes. That said, don’t order the
Irish coffee.
As we headed back to the hotel, it was clear that we
were in for some cool weather. We will need our warm clothing for our trek into
Bryce Canyon tomorrow.
